drum roll please!

the newest edition to A R M O M M Y...

I've been dreaming of making these babies since my amazing mother.in.law, [and collector of all things sentimental],  gifted me a year ago with a roll of ribbon embroidered with my husband's full name.  the spool had belonged to his grandfather whom he was named after.  i immediately fell in love with the history, simplicity and functionality of the coiled ribbon and starting dreaming up ways to make a modern version.  it wasn't long before i had gathered enough resources, materials and ideas but for whatever reason didn't finish this little project...

... Until a few weeks ago when my m.i.l gave me this vintage treasure:  

A beautiful red sweater that was made by my children's great grandmother and worn by their aunties when they were children; and is now being worn by our little Matilda Jane.  

Seeing the ribbon sewn to the sweater  was the last bit of inspiration I needed to finish our clothing labels:

they are up in our shop now.  be on the lookout for new designs and as always, custom orders +/or ideas are always welcomed!

first class.

we are so excited to be offering our first "beginners" sewing class.  we will be covering everything from stitches to buttonholes and zippers.  our project is undecided at the moment but we are thinking of decorative pillows with different finishes, a festive apron, OR a toiletry bag - all using different trims.  maybe we should put it up for a vote!  other details can be found on the above image.  the class doors will open 30 minutes prior to class time if you need help setting up your machine, etc.

let us know if you have any questions or would like to reserve a spot.  if the flier is too small to read just click on it.  also, let us know if you would be interested in a weekend class or a class offered in the bellevue area.

one of my favorite parts of owning a company {particularly one that creates products} is that we are given so many opportunities to support not.for.profit organizations.  such as this gift certificate above that i just sent to windermere professional partners.  they are raising money for a performing arts center in hilltop called D A S H {stands for DANCING . ACTING . SINGING . + HARMONY}.   their mission is to "provide quality performing arts instruction, education and mentoring to the underserved communities and lower income families of tacoma - pierce county, offering programs to directly counteract gang + drug influences and empower inner city youth through honesty, positivity, + creativity."   fantastic, right!?

the DASH center has successfully helped many kids stay out of gangs and gives them something to do after school and on weekends.  there are certain criteria required to be in the program such as: maintaining a minimum 2.5 gpa and involvement in at least 4 community service projects each year.  for more info you can visit www.thedashcenter.org .  

the event is tomorrow evening at tower lanes in tacoma, and i am praying that the youth, family and adults involved in DASH will be greatly impacted by the funds raised and overwhelmingly blessed!

at the heart of ARMOMMY.

i was recently given the opportunity to write about our company.  typically this means writing about our strategies, goals and predictions.  {yuk!} because numbers and graphs make my head hurt i would not ordinarily consider this task to be an opportunity, but more like having my teeth pulled.  however, this instance required that i write about our heart, dreams and hopes.    therefore, i was absolutely  thrilled to be able to share with someone what truly matters to us. 

i have included some excerpts from my assignment below…

I am in love and devoted to my Lord and Savior, my husband of 4 years, {Johan}, and three children {Austin 9, Espen 3, Matilda 1}. I am also a friend, daughter, sister, Sunday school teacher, small group leader, classroom volunteer, stay at home, working parent and business owner. I find great joy in all things beautiful {and sweet}, creating, designing,  journaling, watching and participating in sports, singing {when no one can hear me} and adventuring. I am a big dreamer who trusts in God’s plan for my life and strives to live fully in the moment.

At 20 years of age, while playing soccer and attending Washington State University, I became pregnant. Life changed drastically for me. The years that followed were lonely and difficult, but through faith I raised my darling boy alone, while working several part time jobs and completing school.

As a result of this experience, God has gifted me with a heart for moms. At first I believed it was just for single moms, but as I have searched and prayed, there was no doubt that my heart is for all moms {working, single, stay at home, …}. I love them. I want to encourage, equip, and empower them to realize their significance. I want moms to be able to choose joy, laughter, dancing, beauty and simplicity over the ugly alternatives. I want moms to be lifted up to be able to live the best life possible , regardless of circumstances.

This is the core of ARMOMMY. This is the heart of its owner. This is a lifestyle company.

{i went on to talk about future dreams, ideas for products and various endeavors and then concluded by saying simply,}

ARMOMMY is us: our company, our dream. ARMOMMY gives us purpose, joy, and hope. ARMOMMY is how we use our talents for God’s glory and love people to His Kingdom. It is a journey and adventure we are blessed to be on.

i am not equipped or able to do these things on my own.  i make more mistakes then i care to admit.  however, i have a God that is more then able to use me, imperfections and all.  i am thankful for the friends that just this  morning reminded me of that truth.  God does not ask us to be perfect, just willing.  be encouraged darling friends, that He is more then enough, more then able,  and incredibly patient….  i should know.

before you grab your goodies and settle in for this charming, thought provoking, 3 minute love story, i would just like to say a few words:

mark of august island pictures; you did a phenomenal job filming, editing and blessing us with your time and talents. emily of jones design company, i did not even know that i was creative until i spent time with you. thank you for sharing your home, ideas, friendship and encouragement. to ALL of my friends and family who's darlings i have borrowed; thank you for not charging me and for your willingness to help [and for making such cute kids!]. to kames and jaty, for creating our web site, putting up with me and being devoted friends. thank you to my mom, aka jane, aka the president of ARMOMMY. i don't know what it was that convinced you to go into business with me. i can only assume it's a God thang. thank you for putting a lot on the line, for your time, energy, creativity, believing in me, supporting me, sharing your wisdom and picking up the phone when i call. [seriously, i know this is getting ridiculous, and is totally uncalled for, but bear with me.] thanks to my family, friends and children who have sacrificed, helped, humored and cheered me on. to my yodaler [aka my husband] for being the true definition of a partner, for putting up with me and for simply saying, "yes, i know you can do it" when i rattle off a seemingly outrageous and unreasonable vision that i have for our life and the company. Lastly to my Lord and Savior, the ultimate designer, creator and idea maker; thank you for crossing my paths with these lovely people, for giving me a platform to share your love, for forgiving me and for never leaving my side. may it be for Your Glory.
